A fresh marketing tool for local farmers’ markets
While we’re lucky to enjoy farmers’ markets year-round on the Central Coast, they’re especially popular during the summer. Not only is the weather great for outdoor strolling, but summer also offers the largest variety of vegetables and fruits (Think: Nectarines & summer squash!)
To take advantage of the timing, Account Manager Courtney Meznarich came up with a fresh and fun idea. We created a special publication for the San Luis Obispo County Farmers’ Market Association that was inserted into copies of the Tribune.
To get the artwork for this 8-page insert, BCA’s Katie Ferber and Lauren Finley went to the Saturday farmers’ market in San Luis Obispo to shoot photos of produce – on the tailgate of Katie’s SUV.
Lauren used those images to create a fun timeline for fruits and veggies. It included handy tips from farmers like, “Keep Persian cucumbers longer by wrapping tightly in plastic wrap or in a bag with all of the air let out”). It also featured photos of non-produce items available at the markets and excerpts from the market’s blog created by BCA’s Pat Pemberton.
The final product was a visually appealing, fun-to-read publication that went to 39,844 homes in the county. And more than 100 people clipped out the $2 coupons contained in the inserts and used them at the various markets.
Our farmers’ markets are part of the community’s charm so we’re elated to help boost sales.
